Card Magic

# Glass on Card

the effect:

Take any card out of the pack and be able to balance a glass on the card without any help. It appears as thought the glass is floating on the card!!! No setups are required. Only sleight of hand.

preparation and secret:

Balance the glass on the card as shown in the right picture above. Practice until you can do it naturally without hesitation.

# Stop When U Like

The effect:

The perfomer asks a spectator to deal cards until they want to stop. The last card they deal is turned face up and is shown to be the same card as identified in a note written beforehand by the performer.

preparation and secret:

Before you begin the trick: On a piece of paper write down "The card you stop at will be the Eight of Diamonds". Put the note loose inside your wallet and then put your wallet along with the Eight of Diamonds into your pocket.

Give the pack of cards to the spectator and ask them to shuffle them, then deal them onto the table and stop just whenever they want to. Emphasise that they should deal the cards anywhere on the table, not in a neat pile. Note: This is important for the trick to work Whilst they're dealing the cards, take out your wallet and keep the Eight of Diamonds hidden, face-down underneath it. Note: It's important to practice this on your own a few times before doing the trick so you don't risk fumbling and the card being seen. When the spectator stops dealing, drop your wallet on top of the cards on the table, thereby adding the Eight of Diamonds to the pile. You say: "Look inside my wallet" The spectator finds and reads the note. You ask: "What does the note say?" They read it out aloud and as they do so you move the wallet and turn over the top card on the pile - it's the same card as the one named in your note!

Coin Magic

# Perfect Coin Balance Trick

the effect:

Appear to be able to make the coin balance on its edge on your hand. With the wave of your hand, get the coin to slowly lie down back on your hand. The coin can be immediately sent out for inspection!

preparation and secret:

A small pin or toothpick is secretly used to act as a stand to balance the coin against. It must be concealed before the trick, placed between your forefinger and middle finger as seen in the picture above. Slowly release your grip on the pin or toothpick and allow the coin to slowly rest back on the hand.

Mental Magic

# Spirit Trick

the effect:

Be able to tell whether you have picked a living person or dead person. Alternatively, you could find the person who is dead from the pile of papers.

preparation and secret:

Tear the piece of paper with the names written on it as follows. You will notice only the paper with the dead person's name on it has four torn edges. So you could just feel the edges and find say that the spirit of the dead has communicated with you to enable you to find it.

# Magic Name Prediction

The effect:

The magician gets some members of the audience to shout out the names of around a dozen different famous people - either dead or alive and writes them down on pieces of paper which are then mixed up in a hat. The magician then writes down a prediction. A member of the audience picks one of the pieces of paper and reads out the name written on it and it is seen to be the name that the magician predicted.

preparation and secret:

Make sure you have available around a dozen pieces of paper, a piece of coloured card, a pen and a hat. Ask a member of your audience to call out a famous name then write this name down on a piece of paper and drop it into the hat. Request another name but this time instead of writing down the name which is called out to you, actually write down once again the first name that was called. This means of course that both of the pieces of paper in the hat have the same name written on them. Carry on in this manner apparently writing down names which are called out from other members of the audience but in fact writing down the same name all the time until you have around a dozen pieces of paper in the hat all with the same name on them. At this point you now make a big show of making your prediction (the same name again) the piece of coloured card which you place somewhere where it is in sight of the audience but to where they cannot see the name. Next, get a member of your audience to shake up the hat containing all the pieces of paper and dip in their hand to choose one of them which they must then read aloud. Of course now you simply need only to show that you magically predicted the name and possibly more importantly to get rid of all the other pieces of paper in the hat so that no wonder realises your deception!
